The various state or territory education systems provide the key educational backbone throughout Regional Australia, especially in smaller communities and in rural areas.
Many of these schools are smaller than those found in metro centres. This may mean less subject choice. On the other hand, and as evidenced by our case study on the attitudes of NSW regional teachers, teachers in smaller schools are often more enthusiastic and involved.
All state and territory education departments maintain web sites providing a range of information about schools and schooling in their jurisdictions. These include search facilities that will assist you in identifying schools in areas of particular interest to you. Web addresses are set out in the following table.
