Business - General Information Sources

The Commonwealth of Australia Business Portal - www.business.gov.au - provides information on setting up and managing a new business as well as information on various Government programs. It includes a business directory for state, territory and local agencies as well as industry associations.

Each state or territory also provides a small business entry point:

The various Chambers of Commerce can offer assistance, information and resources. A list of national and state chambers follows. In addition, there are local chambers in most centres in Regional Australia that can provide local information.  

Business Enterprise Centres (BECs) can assist small businesses, including start-ups and those already in business through an advisory and counselling service - see  www.beca.org.au.

Franchise operations are comnmon throughout Regional Australia and provide a frequent business entry point. The Franchise Council of Australia - www.franchise.org.au - is one entry point for information in this area. 

The Australian Competition & Consumer Competition (ACCC) has a free booklet - The Franchisee's Guide -that can help franchisees make commercial decisions - see www.accc.gov.au.
