Getting Started

This evolving page is intended to help you get best value from this site.

Two initial questions:

Defining Regional Australia

The meaning of the phrase "Regional Australia" has changed over the last thirty years.

Armidale GorgeOriginally the term meant all of Australia outside the capital cities. In recent years, the growth of Australia's bigger metropolitan centres means that the term has come to mean all of Australia outside those centres.

We have followed this convention, defining Regional Australia to include all of Australia outside Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.

Why a Web Site?

But why a web site on Regional Australia?

Well, for a number of reasons reflecting history, the structure and content of existing web sites and information sources make it very hard to get structured information on Regional Australia.

The information is there, but you have to search for it. This submerges the diversity, interest and opportunities offered by Regional Australia. We want to redress this.

We also suggest that you visit the Tree Change/Sea Change page since many of the issues that you will face are similar to those faced by metro Australians considering the Regional Australia option.
